Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania

An item and money situation between friends

I gave a friend $2500 toward an item worth $6000. Six months later I could not complete the transaction and we came to the agreement of a refund. After six MORE months of him not giving the refund, he offered me an item worth $3500 and asked if I would be willing to pay $1200 more for it. I agreed and he shipped the item to me but extenuating circumstances have left me unable to pay for the remainder, however I need this item for my work. It has now been a 15 months since this transaction initially begun. Is there any legal repercussion that can be taken against me for my inability to pay as agreed? All of the correspondence was done via e-mail.

Yes. He could sue you for the return of the item or sue you to make good on the contract.
