Bounced Check responsibilities
I wrote out a check to a friend, for $125.00, well it bounced unfortuntely. His bank charged him $10.00 bank fee. Well I have made the check good to him, I gave him $100.00 one day and $35.00 another day. I payed him for the check amount and the bank fee that he was charge. Well in the course of my check bouncing, he wrote out 2 other checks on his account and they also bounced. He now wants me to pay for those and the fees as well. Seeing how i made my bounced check and his feee from the bank good, Am I legally responsible for making good the other two checks he bounced? He claims that if I don't he will take legal action on me. I am frightened and I don't have the money to get advice from lawyers around here. My question is I made good the check that bounced along withthe fee his bank charged him on the check I wrote to him. Am I responsible legally for any other checks he may have written while this was all transpiring that bounced? I look forward to your quick response!

I am afraid that you are responsible for all damages naturally flowing from the bad check you tendered. That is not only the recipient's direct bank charges, but the indirect charges of his charges for bouncing checks he paid to others. Find out how much he is claiming and if at all reasonable, pay the charges.

You are not responsible for the amount of the checks which bounced, as you have repaid the principal amount you borrowed, but you are responsible for all charges he incurred because your check bounced, including those for the two other checks he wrote. Sorry, but you are responsible for the damages caused to him by your mistake.
