Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Pennsylvania

fired from job for trial that i have coming up

I was fired from my job because i have a trial coming up in the spring of 2003.The trial pertains to sexual assault on an adult. I have not even had my preliminary hearing yet to determine my hearing date. My employer told me I was fired because of this. I would like to know if this is legal for him to do or not.I have been a excellant employee and had no accidents or bad reports on me for anything but yet i was fired. He has already convicted me and i haven't even had my trial. My lawyer says that i will be getting off because the person in question keeps changing her story. Please let me know if i can do something about this.Thank you.

If you are an employee at will, that is you have no employment contract, your employer may fire you for any or no reason. Of course there are certain interests which the Constitution protects, such as race, religion, and gender. The presumption of innocence, however, is not so considered. An employer may fire you even if you are acquitted.
