Do I still have to pay?

I had an alarm system installed in a house which I no long reside. I called the alarm company to inform them that I was moving and they could retreive their system. They informed me that I was still liable for the balance of the contract and they didn't want the system. I sold the house with the alarm system still intact. Now the alarm company is trying to collect on the system. Do I have to still pay?

At the risk of piling on, your contract is what YOU agreed to. Most likely, the contract states that you agreed to pay them money. What does it say about terminating? Does it say that if you make the decision to move, you get out of paying? It would be very unusual for the company to be bound by your personal unilateral decision to move. Read and understand contracts before signing.
