Legal Question in Construction Law in Pennsylvania
placing a mechanics lien
Do I need a lawyer to place a mechanic's lein on a property I am working on? The lawyer I asked wants a $1,000 retainer + $200-400 for the lien itself. Is that normal or can I just file it myself at the courthouse cheaper?

Re: placing a mechanics lien
Well that all depends. If I go to Home Depot and purchase some supplies and redo my kitchen and the cabinets fall off the wall and the dishes break because I didn't want to hire a contractor because it was "cheaper" did I save any money?
I don't know how much is at stake, it will be cheaper if you do it yourself if you don't need the lien, however if you don't do it right and you need the lien to get paid you will consider the money spent on legal fees a great investment.
Good luck to you.
