Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania
Account Debit w/o Owner's Knowledge
I subscribed to internet service with AT&T Worldnet at a price of $14.95 per month for unlimited service, which was debited monthly from my checking account. I found out, because my account became overdrawn, that they had debited my account for $333.25. I called, thinking that it must have been a mistake, and was told that since I had not been using a local access number that I was being charged $.10 per minute for every minute spent on my computer. The dial-up number that I was using was one that they provided for me. I would be crazy to use my computer for hours, had I known I was being charged at this rate. I also found out, by checking a previous bank statement, that they had debited my account for $156.00 the previous month. I asked them to investigate my problem and did not even recieve a reply. I called and asked for a mailing address, so I could write them, and was told that they didn't have a mailing address. I cancelled my service and tried to send them numerous e-mails, but none of the e-mail addresses provided can be reached. Can they just keep my money?

First, you should dispute the charges with your bank, this will force them to provide an explanation as to why they took the money. If your bank decides against you, you need to file a suit in the District Justice office asking for the money based on their wrongfully taking it. I offer free consultations.
Re: Account Debit w/o Owner's Knowledge
Immediately contact your bank to dispute the charges, after an investigation occurs one of two things will occurs, either your money will be returned into your account or it won't....if you lose this round you can file with a district justice....also be advised that if the bank returns your money the phone company may seek have a collection agency contact you...at this point I would recommend retaining legal counsel.

File a dispute with your credit card company/bank. They will investigate and make a determination. If they do not return the money, then file a suit w/the District Justice. Are you still being charged? From what you wrote it seems you're having problems reaching them to cancel??
Also, read the original agreement that you made with them (if you signed up online, the agreement will be on their website). People tend not to read the agreement before entering a deal, but you always should. See if it says there anything about the 10 cents a minute.
