Contract for a band performance
Our volunteer fire company has a contract for a band to perform on New Year's Eve. The problem is that the officer of the company that signed the contract is no longer an officer at the company and the company cannot afford the cost of $2,500 for this band to perform. Is the fire company legally binded to this contract?

Re: Contract for a band performance
As long as the officer had authority (or apparent authority) when he signed the contract, it's binding. Maybe there's some cancellation provision, so your fire company should consult your attorney for advice.
But the main thing is, if you want to cancel, let the band know right away. That way, maybe they can find another gid, and they'll be more willing to forgive the debt, the more notice they get.
