As long as the officer had authority (or apparent authority) when he signed the contract, it's binding. Maybe there's some cancellation provision, so your fire company should consult your attorney for advice.

But the main thing is, if you want to cancel, let the band know right away. That way, maybe they can find another gid, and they'll be more willing to forgive the debt, the more notice they get.
