contract with cellular phone company

I wish to terminate my contract with a cellular phone company, mainly because the service is inadequate. When I bought new equipment last summer, the receipt printed out an agreement (which I did not sign) for my service to continue for two more years. The rep at the company tells me that buying the equipment is a verbal agreement to continue the service for two years. Is this a binding contract? Thank you.

I do not believe that you have an oral contract, however you need to review the fine print in the original agreement and it may state a renewal can automatically extend the contract. Sometimes a quick letter from an attorney can you get you out of these, let me know if you cannot handle it yourself. Be careful because these companies are infamous for turning you over to the credit bureau for non-payment and that could negatively affect your credit. You want a relase from them before you do anything.
