Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania

Use of highlighter on contract

Can someone tell me if it is illegal to use a highlighter to indicate where someone needs to sign on a contract? I have been told that I can no longer do this but I can use a ''sign here'' sticky to indicate where someone must sign. Sounds more like urban myth that contract law.

Re: Use of highlighter on contract

It doesn't make the contract illegal but it is not a good idea to use highlighter. Here is why. Any highlighter, red lettering (commonly called 'red line' font which is used in drafts), handwritten material, etc., is evidence that the agreement may not have been the last and final version the the parties agreed to. The signed and final version should be entirely clean to eliminate all confusion for all parties' benefit. You can even get a stamp with your company logo made up at Office Depot for $30.00 which looks very official looking, or you can use an "Original" stamp on the document, etc.
