Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania
Leak ruins flooring
Various times over the last 6 months, we have had our heating contractor come to make repairs, one of which was
a valve that has since begun leaking. The water has ruined the floor. What are our legal rights? Can the heating company be held responsible for replacing the floor?

If a contractor performs work on your house, he may be held liable for damage. You can certainly make the demand and he should submit it to his insurance carrier. They in turn will send an adjuster out to determine the damage and, if they feel he is liable, they will offer to pay the amount of damage.
If you have difficulty obtaining relief from the contractor, you can make a claim on your own homeowner's insurance. Just note that any claim could result in higher premiums.
