What can I do about a 3 year old medical debt if I feel the amount is unreasonable

Lots of things. Settle it. Many medical providers will accept 50% of the debt. Or take a wait and see approach. How much is it? If less than $1,000 then they probably are not going to sue you. So do nothing, If you don't need any credit, it is going to fall off your credit report in another 4 years.
