Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Accrued Debt

My husband and I recent reconciled after a 15 month separation, which was done privately and not on the ''books.'' (We've been married since 1985). Anyway, prior to our reconciliation he accrued debt in the form of credit cards and the purchase of a new vehicle. He has since consolidated the debt into a home mortgage (from his property that I signed over to him). My question....am I going to be liable for this debt as well? The credit cards, vehicle and mortgage are in his name only. I'm concerned because I don't know how this ''trial period back with him'' will end.

Re: Accrued Debt

It is possible that you will be responsible for his debt. You may want to consult an attorney about the specifics. You also may be able to draw up a property settlement agreement that specifies that this debt is his should you need to separate again.
