Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
accused of not paying
My son briefly attended a day care for a few hours a day, 1 or 2 days a week over 3 years ago. Today, I recieved a threatening letter accusing me of 'deliberately neglecting' my account there. It also says they have called me and sent me other letters. I have not heard from this center since they day he quit. There is no information or proof attached to this letter. Just an amount they say I owe, a date they say I have to pay by, and a threat to turn me into the IRS who will enforce maximum action against me. I think this daycare is wrong in the amount of money they say I deliberately didnt pay. I dont recall owing anything, and they want me to pay them almost $600. I honestly cant even remember the last day he went there. He went there for socialization because his late birthday kept him from going to preschool. I didnt have a contract of how long he would go. I dont even know how much I paid a month, it was so long ago. I dont even think we have any old checks as proof from 3.5 years ago. How CAN i prove that I am right.

Re: accused of not paying
You asked how you can prove that you are right.
Our system doesn't ask that you prove you are right. They must prove that you are in the wrong.
If they persue the matter then make them produce the information that they say proves your liability. Then address that information specifically. If they file suit then get an attorney.
