Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Hi, my name is Alison

I just had a judgement put against me in my local prothonotary's office at my local courthouse for nonpayment of a credit card. I'm on a fixed income and I could not afford to pay it any longer. I was told that in Pa. After 5 years the debt just goes away. Is this true? What if I want to purchase a vehicle with payments or if I am a co-owner for a vehicle Or if I should come into an inhertience (I have 2 elderly aunts and I just reciently lost an uncle in late August) Can they take that inheritence away from me?

Judgments don't go away. You should have responded to the lawsuit before there was a judgment against you. Many many times we are successful in getting credit card lawsuits dismissed because the company often doesn't have the right documents to get a judgment against you. With a judgment, they can sell your possessions, freeze your bank account (empty it now) and lien your property.
