Can a collection agency garnish a checking account for a credit card debt. If they can, how and where do they get the account info.

If they sue you and win, and you don't file an appeal, then yes, they may be able to garnish a checking account. The key is to defend the case and beat them. Collection agencies are typically pretty easy to beat.
