my child support case was dropped in 2006...do i still owe arrears and can my wages be garnished?

This is a family law question, not a credit/collection issue.

The rule is that both parties have a duty to support their child until the child turns 18 (unless the child is handicapped) in PA. If there is a court order for support, then yes, your wages can be garnished. Also, if there is court ordered support and you miss one or more payments, each missed payment becomes like a money judgment. It never goes away, even after the child is well past the age of 18 and it can be collected.

You state that your child support case was dropped. Why? Was there ever a court order entered? If there was and you were being held in contempt, then the arrears are owed. If there was never a court order to begin with and the case was dropped, then no. Child support dates back to when the support petition was filed, but since it was dropped, there would be no arrears.
