Who knows? You didn't provide enough information. Who is suing you? If its a credit card company or a junk debt buyer, then no, you don't attend. You hire a consumer attorney to go in your place.

If its a different type of business or individual that is suing you, then yes, you should probably attend.

More info is needed. Call a consumer attorney. Most of us offer free initial consults.

I agree with Attorney Artim in general. You need to repost your question with more details as to who is suing you and for what. Whether you need to attend depends on that. If you are sued by an original creditor like Capital One or Discover and you owe the debt and the lawsuit is timely, I don't think you need to attend. What would you say if you did That you can't pay? The court does not care why you can't pay. If its for something else or if you have been sued by a junk debt buyer, then you may have defenses to the action. In such case, you need to talk with the appropriate kind of lawyer. If you are sued on a consumer issue or credit card ,then talk to a consumer lawyer. If your neighbor is suing because a tree fell on his roof, then you might need a real estate lawyer.
