Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

civil case judgment

I refused to pay a bill to a contractor due to not repairing our heating system. they took it to the district magistrate. i never got a notice of the hearing scheduled. hearing held and judgment made in favor of the contractor for $294. is a judgment automatically entered in the court of common pleas? what are my options in paying this? can i send them $10 a month for 30 months until it's paid? must i pay in full right away? what happens if i only send $10 a month? once amount is paid in full, do i contact count of common pleas to have judgement removed? any other information you may give me is greatly appreciated.

Re: civil case judgment

You have 30 days from the date of the judgment to appeal to the court of common pleas. If you do so, the judgment does not take effect until a hearing at that level. If you wish to file an appeal, call your county prothonotary's office.
