You don't have to go to court. However, if you did not answer the lawsuit, then a judgment will be entered against you.

With a judgment, the creditor will be able to seize your bank account unless you have exempt funds (like Social Security) or keep less than $300. There is no wage garnishment in PA but the creditor can try and have the sheriff seize and sell any other assets that are owned free and clear.

The judgment is going to earn interest at a rate of 6% per year so it will get bigger.

My advice would be to try and get this resolved. If you are currently in litigation, then you should seek local counsel specializing in credit card debt (its unclear from your post but this sounds like credit card debt) to see if you have any defenses. If you don't and if you have other debts, you may want to file bankruptcy. If this is your only debt and you are interested in resolving this debt outside of court, I can help for a reasonable fee.
