Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Collection Agency is harassing me
I had car insurance with Erie. My policy was near expiration when I sold my car. I did not know that I had to notify Erie, I just let my policy expire and since I did not purchase another car I just went on my parents policy(different ins co). I received a letter from Erie saying I owed 228 dollars or they would send my name to a collection agency. I showed proof that the vehicle was sold. Erie lowered payment to 80 dollars which I paid immediately. This was over two weeks ago. Today I get a phone call from collection agency saying I still owe 228 dollars. What do I do? Thank you.

Re: Collection Agency is harassing me
You haven't been "harassed" yet.
First, you should contact the collection agency and tell them to check with Erie about the status of your account. Make sure you talk to a manager at the collection agency.
Also, write them a letter to the same effect, disputing the debt, and asking them to confer with Erie about the status of your debt.
There are various rules that they must follow when calling you. If they continue to call after you have done these things, talk with a lawyer about possibly suing them for violation of the Federal Credit Collections law.
Feel free to call or email me if the problem persists.
