Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

collections for services rendered

I provided services under a written contract. The check tendered for the contract bounced. The person (a former friend) now owes approximately $3,000 for the services, but she claims she can't pay. She has since moved and refuses to provide a new address, which is also in PA. What is the best way to resolve this other than taking the person to small claims court. I am out of state and taking the person to court would be used as a last resort only. A recommended collection agency or local attorney experienced in collections is an option I'm willing to consider at this time.

Re: collections for services rendered

A collection agency or attorney will ordinarily charge about 40% of the amount collected so you are on the right track trying to work things out. Although the amount is small, things are really tight right now and if the only problem is her finances, then she may be able to make payments.
