Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
credit card debt collection
I recieved a letter from a debt negotioator stating that a credit card company had filed a lawsuit against me for my outstanding debt. Could this be legit? What are the creditors options for collecting their debt? Thanks

Re: credit card debt collection
They frequently do file suit and the negotiator probably saw the suit on the Prothonotary's web site and is trying to solicit your business. I didn't realize they were doing this. I think the "negotiator" is probably engaging in the unauthorized practice of law. If you telephone my office I will be able to look on the Prothonotary's web site and verify that the suit was filed and give you more information about it. Once suit is filed, however, you are going to have to deal with an attorney on the other side and you should have your own attorney to settle it or fight it.
