Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Credit card fraud potential
I opened some credit card accounts in my mothers name, listing myself as an authorized user to help establish my credit. She knew about one of the accounts, but didnt know about 9 others. Charged about $4k. She got credit bureau and knows about these other accts. I have been paying these accounts for the past year. Now, she went and put fraud alert and told bureaus accounts arent hers. They sent her papers and after talking with me said she wouldnt send in a police report like they want. Now, all the creditors are sending bills demanding full payment and the bills have had some fraud adjustments. Should I pay with money orders and pay the regular $100 a month cause I cant afford to pay all these amounts. What do you recommend? I told her to call the bureau and undo it, she is afraid of getting in trouble and wont, and already told them I opened all the accts. I am afraid now, and dont know what to do, she doesnt want to press charges but I have a feeling the creditors will. I have always paid accts without being late. She threatened to get a police report if I dont pay these full amts, and get me prosecuted. What should I do?! Please help!

Re: Credit card fraud potential
You and your mother need to speak with an attorney to sort this matter out immediately. The expense will be negligible compared to the problems you will face by not dealing with the problem head on. The attorney can deal with creditors and get the matter sorted out much more easily than you can.
I would also suggest meeting with the a credit counselor. The only credit counselor I will recommened is Consumer Credit Counseling Services which also goes by the name of Money Management International. They have been around a long time, have never been in trouble with the law and are generally a reputable organization. I have no ties to that company but have dealt with them myself and through clients for years always with good results.
