if i had a credit card and did not pay it can they sue me

Any time anyone owes a debt, the person or entity who is owed the money can enforce the obligation. They do so by suing.
A lawsuit is seeking a court determination that you owe the money. That is known as a judgment. A judgment is enforceable by execution. That is accomplished by selling items of personal property and/or by seizing your bank account. If you own real estate, the judgment becomes a lien on it.
