Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

credit card

I got a credit card my wife didn't know about.Upon returning from work today my wife was upset because the credit card company had called. They told her my percentages (0.0- 14.0) - when my rates would go up - and my credit limit. My wife is NOT on my account. Isn't this illegal? I am extremely upset. Thank - you for any help.

Re: credit card

You asked about a credit account you wanted to keep hidden from your wife.

Seek counseling. Marital relationship counseling. Seriously. You're married to this person. You should have complete trust in her and she in you. There should be no secrets of any substance. And the only secrets kept should end when the word, just after one of you says 'surprise honey.' More, problems in relationships arise from money than any other subject.

As for your question, no, your rights weren't violated and you have no cause to be upset at anyone. As a married couple you are each generally responsible for each other's debts. Even if your wife isn't named on the account she has every right to access the account as do you for those accounts she hasn't told you about.

Think about it, to all other parties you and your wife appear to be one entity, and for legal purposes you are. Whether or not both parties are on your mortgage or lease you both have full rights to your home. Could you charge her with theft if she took "your" car?

Get counseling.

Regards,

Roger
