In the state of Pa if a wife dies and has extensive credit card debt, is the husband responsible for her debt after she dies

Depending on the contract the husband may not be liable for the debt, but the credit card company may be able to place a claim against the estate of the wife. Even if there is no estate opened by the husband, sometimes the creditor can open an estate. Whether this is likely depends on the size of the debt and the amount of money the wife has (such as equity in a house) when she dies.
