Re: debt collection laws

If I'm reading your question correctly I think you have probably been threatened by a credit card company or collection agency stating it can put a lien on your home or seize your property. They may sue you and obtain a judgment against you and that would become a lien which they could execute upon but they have to go through the court process first.

A credit card company can sue you for unpaid bills. They can get a judgment for the amount due which will become a lien on your real property.

With a judgment they can have the sheriff sell personal property to satisfy the judgment.

Please don't ignore any legal papers from a credit card company.
