debt collections
we are being sued by discover card for failure to make required payments. my wife and i are both on a fixed income for medical reasons. they filed with an attorney and we have been served papers saying we have 20 days to respond. what are the concernquences?

You must respond to the Court within the required time period. This is something you need to deal with. Your best best is to hire an attorney.
If you have little or no funds to hire an attorney then you should seek the assistance of a legal clinic. Law schools and community organizations can often direct you to legal clinics.
Depending on your particular situation you may also wish to consider bankruptcy. An attorney can discuss options with you better if s/he is fully appraised of your situation.
