Re: Debt Collectors

You asked about annoying debt collectors.

You don't need money to hire an attorney to help in matters with regard to debt collectors.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) proscribes certain conduct and prescribes particular actions that can control debt collectors.

That law provides that a person who is aggrieved by the conduct of a debt collector may seek remedy in the courts and may be awarded a statutory amount. Further, if the complainant prevails the defendant can, and often is, ordered to pay the legal fees of the complainant. Many attorneys will take these cases without you having to pay any money. (Conversely many attorneys will ask for some money up front in order to ensure that the complainant has some skin in the game. If the complainant prevails the cost of the attorney would return the amount pre-paid in lieu of the fees awarded.)

Regards,

Roger
