Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Friend ruined wifes credit
Wife recently Applied for credit card and was turned down. When we recieved credit report we just found out that she owes $2600+ for a utility bill. Wife had a friends gas turned on back in 1999 under her name and was not living with her. Neither of them keep in touch but we do know where she lives and attempted to contact her. We also had other friends relay our concerns to her. She immediately got an attitude and refuses to return our calls. Do we have a case if we send this dispute to a small claims court even though my wife signed a form to get the gas turned on? We are hesitate on paying the bill since there is no gaurentee we will ever see the money from her. Since her so called friend refuses to pay up and it doesnt look like she will cooperate, Whats the best way to approach this???

Re: Friend ruined wifes credit
If your wife signed for the account, she is almost certainly liable to the gas co. But (absent an agreement to the contrary) her friend would be liable to her and can be sued for whatever your wife has to pay.
