Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Has my girlfriend privacy been violated?
My girlfriend, whom I have lived with for about 4 years and have a child with, has a credit card with a balance of about 2900.00. We have not been able to pay on this due to personal family issues and loss of income, change of living expenses etc. We receive countless phone calls daily from creditors. Many of which I have told she no longer resides here to try to get them to stop calling. The calls still continue. Furthermore, she receives a phone cal from her father today ( She does not live there and hasn't in years. She is also 21 years of age.) askng her to call him to discuss a phone call he received from a law office. She called him and he askes her why she Owes ***** $2900 and how se got behind on the bill. She asked him how he knew this and he informed her the man who called from the law office ( I am presuming they are a collection agency) discussed the matter with him. Infuriated, she came to me asking questions thinking I would know since I am a pre law student. I told her I did not know and would research it. I told her to tell them the number was a work number and they were not to call her on it anymore. My question to you guys is this. Is it legal for them to discuss this with anyone other than her w/o permission?

Re: Has my girlfriend privacy been violated?
You asked an oft asked question about collections.
Here's your first legal research assignment. Look up the numerous answers I have previously written on this very topic.
Then, if she would like to prosecute this matter, she can call me during the day to discuss this further.
