Can I be held responsible for his debts?

If a man and woman live together as boyfriend/girlfriend for a long period of time (over 10 years), but do NOT have a common law marriage (No intention of EVER getting married) can one person be held liable for the other person's debts and/or unpaid taxes? The residence we live in is in my name only. We file separate tax returns and have our vehicles registered in our individual names. No joint property at all. Thank you.

Generally speaking, unless their is a specific agreement there is no joint liability for debts. If one guarantees payment of the debt for the other, then there is liability if such guarantee is in writing. It is hard to address all situations without a detailed interview.
