Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

My husband and I just went through the process of getting pre-qualified for a mortgage and when a credit report was run on my husband, it said he had a cable account that went to collections for over $800, even though it was in his name, he didn't know about the account. The cable company told us the address the account was active at for over 8 months. He recognized the address was an ex-friend of his that used to take advantage of him. The account started after they ended their friendship. This seems like fraud and identity theft. Should we file a police report to get his name/credit cleared?
