Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Jim Woolard's World Gym in Malvern PA

I have a contract with World Gym until 10/05. They pulled the funds via a debit card until 3/05 (For some reason (no fault of my own nothing changed with card or bank and card works fine everywhere else) they started to try and pull from my account the monthly fees and my debit card was declined even though I've had the same card (which they have the right debit card number for), so I had to get my bank to send them a letter stating the debit card was correct and sent bank statements showing I had funds available for the dates they were trying to pull from. I called their Fitness Financal dept. and the woman said she would drop the fees but was unable to drop the monthly fees that I had not paid for, I argued this.(memb. was cancelled in 3/05) since 3/05 until 9/05 and that I had to pay for them even though it was their fault with not being able to get monthly payments from my debit card. She said that the contract was legally binding and I had to pay weather they defaulted or I did even if it was their mistake? Does this sound correct? Even though they cancelled my contract? And there was nothing wrong with my card, and it's clearly a problem with their billing dept? I don't want to pay for something that is not my fault.

It seems like the gym breached the contract. Basic contract law suggests that you do not owe them the fees.
