While social security is exempt, a creditor can freeze your bank account and perhaps obtain a judgment lien on your real estate. You should ultimately be able to unfreeze the bank account, but freezing will bounce any outstanding checks and is certainly disruptive.
When clients are behind in their debt or have judgments, I suggest considering a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If you qualify, that will eliminate any such debt, at least as a personal obligation, and your bank accounts will be safe from any interference by such creditors.
