Is it legal? Anything that is not a crime is legal. Is it prohibited? Yes. PA has a law that is kind of a mini-version of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The FDCPA is a federal law and only applies to junk debt buyers or debt collectors, not original creditors. The PA state law applies to original creditors as well. Usually a creditor cannot discuss your financial situation and the fact that you owe money with any third-parties without your consent. You do not post enough details to know if the violation was deliberate/intentional or to whom the disclosure was made.

However, you owe the creditor money by your own admission. How much? How egregious was the violation? Can you possibly use the violation as leverage in resolving the debt? You need to review your situation with a lawyer who specializes in FDCPA violations. I don't know where you are at - if in the western part of PA you might want to try Greg Artim; if in the eastern part of PA, you might want to try Lawrence Rubin.
