Legal Obligation

Upon being served papers with a date to appear at the magistrate's office for a suit filed concerning a credit card debt, do I have a legal obligation to notify the office of my intentions of appearing or not appearing?

Re: Legal Obligation

By Magistrate, I am assuming you mean District Justice (DJ). If that is correct, most DJ's require that you provide notice of your intention to prevent a defense. The notice you received probably provides the last date for you to provide a notice. It's probably not a hearing date, but just a notice date. Read the papers you received carefully. Also, you can call the DJ's civil clerk to get more info. Good luck.
