Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Letter from Unknown Creditor
Today my boyfriend received a collection letter trying to collect money from some loan in 1995 in PA. He did live there but does not remember this loan and has been living in CA since 1996. He is unsure if his Ex-Wife took out a loan though. What must he do to dispute these charges? He has never received any paperwork previous to this letter & since I have lived with him for 9yrs I would know. We called the collection agency and they said that they cannot give him info over the phone. Please let me know what he should do or let me know what laws apply to this. Thanks so much.

Re: Letter from Unknown Creditor
You may have a case against the collection agency based upon the Fair Debt Collection Act. Please contact our office for further assistance or if you have any other questions.
Re: Letter from Unknown Creditor
He needs to send them a letter demanding verification of the debt. Simple enough. He can find a sample at www.budhibbs.com and he should check out my blog at www.californiadebtblog.com
