Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Mann Bracken is appealing DJ decision

Mann Bracken representing GE Money Bank did not show up at District Justice, I did, and DJ ruled in my favor ''Default Judgement Def''. My Debt Settlement negotiator had tried to pay them in full for 3 weeks before the hearing with no response from the PA attorney who signed the initial civil action suit. Now they are appealing the decision and I have to file a response. I have been getting good legal advice from the Pa attorney for my settlement company but my question is...do I hire a local attorney to deal with MB? We are paying a good amount to settlement company each month and they HAVE settled quite a few accounts, some large and some small. I do think they are worth their fee...have seen some pretty dramatic settlements, just don't know if I should have someone local to represent me...we put any extra $ into escrow to settle the debts. We know we owe what we owe, we just couldn't get out by ourselves without a debt settlement company. We had excellent credit before...we are current on mortgage, second mort., and two cars. Also current on some small store cards. My husband has great job and we want to pay back what we owe, just need time since he went to school for 18 months and didn't have overtime. Lived on credit.

You may want to hire an attorney. Settlement is only one option here, the other is that it's thrown out and you don't owe it at all.

If I can help you in any way, don't hesitate to contact me via email.

I like the previous response but I would like to add to it. I don't know how much you owe but if its more than $2000 you really need to consult a consumer attorney. I doubt very much that GE Money is the named Plaintiff, they typically sells their delinquent accounts to collection agencies. Those cases are very defendable.

I am also very surprised to hear that you have a good debt settlement company. Congratulation on that issue, many of my clients have told me horror stories about debt settlement companies.
