Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

I owe a hospital debt of $5066.61 for an emergency service. My question if I make payments on this debt every month does the hospital have the legal right to turn it over to a collector's agency. I have payments and suddenly a dept collector contacted me by letter.

Thank you

Dave

Dave:

Yes, basically the hospital can do whatever like that if you owe the debt -- but the hope is that they *wouldn't* because of your payment arrangements. A lot of times, however, the hospital will want you to make the payment arrangements with a debt collector, so maybe that's what is happening? You should call the hospital's billing department to inquire; it could also have been an error on the hospital's part to even send it out to a collection agency. Ask.

Best of luck to you!
