Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

I have paid a bill on behalf of an ex-business partner. Our agreement clearly states that we agree to share this bill equally. He has refused to pay his portion or reimburse me. I will be trying to collect in small claims court. What is the legal term or phrase that describes paying a bill in someones behalf where they benefitted?

Indemnification is the concept that one party will reimburse another if they have to pay a bill. So, your partner agreed to indemnify you.

If you need help in court, or there is an appeal, feel free to call or e-mail to discuss this on a free initial basis.

Was there an explicit written agreement? If you were both obligated to pay the bill and you paid all, then you would sue for contribution. However, if you are suing in small claims/magistrate's court, they are less fuss about getting the language right. The object is to put the defendant on notice as to why money is being demanded.

It could be a very simple statement like: on mm/dd/year, parties entered into a contract. Plaintiff paid $x dollars and now seeks reimbursement from business partner defendant in the the sum of $y for contribution or his fair share of the bill as established by our contract which is attached as exhibit A. Attach the writing.

However, posting here is not a substitute for legal advise. If this relates to operation of a business debt, then at least pay to consult a business lawyer even if you are going to file in small claims and represent yourself.
