Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Payday Loan
I, unfortunately, took a payday loan in Feb. of this year, for $300. I did make one payment, but then I fell behind. Today I receive a threatening phone call saying they were sending the police to my place of employment to arrest me for not paying this bill. I've tried to contact these people, but can't find a website or phone number for them. I want to pay them off - but I can't find them. Can they arrest me for this?

Re: Payday Loan
No. It sounds to me like a New Jersey firm that was subject to a cease and desist Order from the Federal Trade Commission. In fact, you have a cause of action against them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and under Pennsylvania's Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act. I do handle that type of case and please feel free to call if you would like to pursue it.
