Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
Privacy Act
I was positive I had paid a charge card when I received my back pay for disability. I actually settled for the pay off with another company and now they say I still owe it. Any way it has been turned over to an attorney and he gave me information that only by viewing my credit report he would have known, so I had it checked and he pulled my credit on June 14, 2006 without my permission. Is this legal? And if not what should I do?

Re: Privacy Act
i would be less concerned with the possibility that your credit report was pulled and more concerned with the pending lawsuit. if you are certain that the bill was paid off, you need to be able to document it. if you have documentation and provide it to the other side, they must cease collection activities. if they do not, you can then file a lawsuit against them for unfair collection practices.
