Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Questions about credit card debt responsibility

Several years ago, my mom added me as a extra person allowed to use her American Express card. I used one card but she had 4 accounts and she added my name to all. I am paying the card I used but she has lapsed on her other accounts and I never made any of those charges. I never signed any paperwork to be a co-signer and now she is using a credit law office to make settlement on her accounts. The third party collect agency refused to call that law office but continues to call me. That third party collection agency tells me I am '' co-maker, co-responsible'' and that my credit will be worsened by this situation. I got a copy of my credit report and at this point, it says under those accounts that I am not responsible. Am I responsible? Can be credit be hurt?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Questions about credit card debt responsibility

If you did not sign, you are not responsible unless you incurred the charges. You can dispute any negative entry on your credit report on this basis and you may have an action against the collection agency for violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and/or the Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act.
