Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

We just received a collections notice from Palisades on behalf of MBNA, an account we have never had. Account was apparently opened in 2003 and this is our first notice, though they had our past and current addresses on file. How do we proceed that we did not open this account? Other quite

possible reason could be an ex wife that had opened this account, was done before in 2002 for an

Amex card.

Collection notices do not effect you at all. It is only when you are sued that you need to be concerned. At that point, you should defend any such suit. Even if an account was opened by your ex-wife, you would probably still be liable. The good news is that Palisades may not be able to prove that you owe them as they need to show a chain of title.
