Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
I recently received a notice of default for failing to appear at a hearing in a suit from a creditr card company. It states I may lose "property and other important rights." What rights does this refer to?

If you are sued in the court of common pleas, you will receive 2 notices. The first is the complaint served upon you by the sheriff. The second is a notice sent by mail advising that you have 10 more days to file a response.
A judgment is a court determination that you owe the money. It will become a lien on any real estate owned in the county and can become a lien on any other real estate after it is acquired. The creditor can seize your bank account and sell the contents of your home and your car.
You should consider a defense or a bankruptcy. The former may make sense depending on whether this is the original creditor. The latter may make sense depending on the amount of all your debt and your income level. You should speak to an attorney immediately.
I trust this answers your question but feel free to call or e-mail for a free initial consult.
