Am I missing something here? The company sent you a bill. You knew that you ordered oil and were obligated to pay for it and you did not do it. So how is the oil company at fault here? Why are they required to send you further notice?

You lost the bill. You could have called them and asked for a duplicate bill or for some other arrangements. Instead, you did nothing and hoped this would simply go away and you would get free oil.

Well it has not gone away. Now, by your own fault, you have caused the oil company to incur even more costs by filing suit. Yes, you have to pay all the costs owed unless you are able to get them to agree to settle for a lesser sum. If they will not do that, then if I were you, I would make arrangements to pay them.

I represent debtors and many of them are facing debts because of events outside of their control like a job loss or medical issue. Based on the facts you relate though, this is a problem entirely of your own making. Its your own damn fault and you have no one to blame here but you.

Put your big boy pants on and take your medicine. Make payment arrangements with them for the whole sum.
