Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
I have two records on my credit files that I believe are re-dated from collection agencies. One is for a very old credit card that is close to or over 10 years old yet collection agency states opened in 2008 - the original credit card company is not even on the credit report. The 2nd one is for an account that both the orginal creditor (dated as opened 2001) and the collection agency is dated as opened in 2006. Is this legal or what can I do to have the dates changed. I am not disputing the accounts were mine but don't the more recent dates affect my credit rating? Also, if one reporting agency removes a record due to age, don't the other 2 have to do the same?

No - all three credit reporting agencies are different. If the debt has been illegally re-aged then you need to dispute this with all three credit bureaus and if one removes it the others do not have to do so. I would dispute the accounts with all three credit bureaus and would copy the original creditor on the letter and see what happens.
