Re: Secondary card holder on credit card

You are only liable for a debt if you agreed that you would be. Your liability does not depend on the life or death of any codebtor. As a practcial matter, creditors will not pursue you so long as the debt is being paid by the codebtor. When the codebtor dies, the creditor must pursue all those who are liable.

There is a distinction between having a card with your name on it and being liable. The former merely involves your authority to use someone else's credit. The latter creates an obligation on your part equal to that of the other person.

You should look to the application to determine if your social security number was used. If so, you are probably liable. If not, you may not be.
