Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

I signed a contract with Aarons rentals and have about $1000 left on the contract. I am now being called by Rent A Center saying they have bought the contract from Aarons. I did make 1 payment because i thought it was the same company.

They are now calling me again saying i am past due and need to make the payment this week or they will want the furniture back.

How do i proceed with this?

Read your contract with Aaron's. Did it say anything about Aaron's ability to assign the contract? Can you call Aaron's to verify that the contract was sold?

If in fact Rent-A-Center bought out the contract, then you owe the money to Rent-a-Center.

Bottom line is that if you want the furniture you have to keep paying for it. You don't get to not pay because the contract was sold.
